John Collis

Sales and Business Development Manager

John has over 20 years experience in the Oil & Gas Industry, including 17 years in the In-line inspection industry. John joined the Marler team in July 2021. He’s known Ray Marler for more than 20 years.

Born to a pair of immigrant Kiwis, John grew up in Nanton, Alberta, much the same as any other kid. John’s Dad was a Driller, and his Mom was a Nurse. He grew up playing Hockey, Baseball, Golf and Basketball.

John’s Dad, who had spent his life in the oil & gas industry, was very insistent that neither of his boys would work in the patch. With that in mind, on graduating High School, John applied to the Navy and was accepted as a Naval Electronics Technician. He spent seven years in the Navy where he spent half his time in Halifax at the Canadian Forces Naval Engineering School, and the other half sailing on Warships out of Esquimalt, BC.

Around the turn of the century, the fateful day came when John applied for a position inspecting pipelines with intelligent tools.

After the Navy, John had his own marine repair business and then worked in Industrial Automation. Around the turn of the century, the fateful day came when he answered an ad in the Calgary Herald for a position inspecting pipelines with intelligent tools. Barring a brief sojourn into the international superyacht industry, John has been in Oil & Gas, from running intelligent tools in the field to project, operations and sales management roles in Canada and Australia.

John lives in High River, Alberta, with his wife Tamara and his two sons, Samuel & Matthew. John still loves golf and plays as much as possible in the summer months. Winter sees him mostly on a ski hill with his boys, and he still gets to the rink to play hockey occasionally.
